My old timer neighbor has this saw and it's so damn cool I've always wanted one. I FINALLY managed to wheel and deal scrounge one up got it home and it won't get fire. I took the flywheel off expecting to find points and I didn't. So I've been scouring the internet for hours now I've learned that the early ones had a 3 piece ignition which is what mine has. I've found part numbers but man this stuff is high. Surely there has to be a way to test to see which one is actually bad instead of buying all 3? Or can I just buy the one piece? Is there any where to buy this stuff cheaper than ebay? If all these answers are no (which I suspect) does anyone have a suggestion which one I should try changing first? I'm a broke hillbilly can't afford to just buy $150 worth of parts just to see which one is bad lol so if anyone has any knowledge that might help me I would love u forever. I want this saw running bad!

Quite often the insulation on the ignition wires is rubbed through or crumbling. Check them all, especially the ones that exit the unit under the flywheel.
Homelites are also known for bad starter toggle switches so disconnect that at the coil and see if that helps.

Components of the C.D. Ignition system can be tested individually . Refer to page B-23, of the Homelite Chainsaw Service Shop Manual 5th Edition part 1, for the testing procedures . More testing info of the C.D.I. on page B-67 .
