Hey, I just picked up an old E-200 lawn edger for $45. I have never seen one of these before, it uses the 32cc plastic-case XL chainsaw engine that was used in the Waterbug pump and such. The only other people I know that made a small two-stroke edger was Weed Eater. This Homelite has a long starter rope like a lawnmower, and it even has a tiny sail-type governor. It has good compression and spark and all it needs is a carburetor rebuild, new fuel line and the basics. I was just wondering if anyone knew some info on these, (when they were built, etc.) I looked them up but I couldn't find much on them. Not too many parts for the actual edger unit are available, the only thing I could find were blades, air cleaner supports and exhaust gaskets.

I just got it running today. When I pulled off the recoil starter the date code for the plastic said '93. Thanks for the info. I need to study up on decoding Homelite serial numbers. It didn't take a lot to get running, luckily the previous owner had drained the fuel in it before it sat in his shed for 25+ years. The carb was clean inside, all it needed was a new metering diaphragm and primer bulb. The biggest problem was the fact that the governor's "sail vane" had been broken off, and I didn't have the piece. I looked up the part number, and low and behold, nothing showed up. I decided to pull the engine, remove the governor bracket, and I cut the broken, jagged piece of plastic that was left of the sail. I have an old Troy-Bilt Mini Tiller with a two-stroke Tecumseh 32cc engine, and I know they have sail governors. I thought I had a spare that I could somehow Frankenstein together with the broken one, but I couldn't find it in my junk drawer. What I ended up doing is that I sanded the cut off part of the sail base, and I cut a small piece of flat, thin plastic from an old SX Bandit trimmer engine air cleaner, and I sanded that too, and I superglued it onto the governor arm. With a bit of trimming it actually worked great. It needs some minor adjustment but it works great for a hillbilly repair.
