There is a 1050 running with 36” and 24” bar for sale locally. I’m going to give him an offer because I think his price is a bit high. I may be wrong. $500 asking price. It’s clean with normal wear signs. I figure the worst he can do is say no.
What would you consider a fair price? Looks like he has been trying to sell it for a little while. I’ve seen it a few different times on different adds.

If you show up with cash in hand, he is more likely to accept an offer. As to what to offer, you will have to decide if you want it or not and how bad. His price might be cheap for a perfect NOS saw, on the other hand he might have a pos wreck not worth much more than the value of the bars. Very hard to say without seeing the saw and knowing how much you want it. Only you can decide that. If you are planning on reselling for a profit, you better do your research and be OK with losing. Good luck, we are pulling for you.

Its handy when you can witness as how well the saw runs and consistently holds a tuning. A ripoff leaves a bad taste.

Sometimes a seller will set his price a bit on the high side intentionally so he has room to dicker & get exactly what he's looking to get.Other sellers are just plain greedy or stupid, thinking that what they have is made of gold & they have the only one ever made.Like you said, make an offer, the worst thing he can do is say no. Just to give you an idea on the price of 1050's & the greedy nature of people,I contacted a fella in Ky.about 6 mo.ago inquiring about a good used 1050.(he sells saws & parts) He told me that anything that was running that went out of his shop went for around $1000.

If the seller in Ky can get $1000 for a good Super 1050 , then that's what they are worth in his area ! If this seller will let you
pull the muffler and do a quick compression and spark test , then you have at least some basic indication of condition and
you can make your decision based on that . Sight unseen , $500 could be a good deal .
Just sayn' !

The thing about the 1050 is that it's in the "muscle saw" category which does increase the value. If you really want it and it's in decent condition, be ready to pay up. Knowing what to offer is anybody's guess.

I think I’m going to call him this evening and try to just start out with conversation. Talk to him about cutting wood. I want to see if he will tell me any stories about using it and problems he might have had in the past. Try to get a little history. I will just see where the conversation goes from there before I toss an offer. There’s some climbing gear in the picture so I am betting it was used somewhat regular but I doubt it was his go to saw.

I am with sweepleader. Show up with cash to do your dealing. I will not deal over social media or phone if i am selling local. What gets me is those who post something to sell, but do not put a price on it. Put it on ebay if you want a bidding contest. It sounds like this person has put a price on it, thats a good start.

$500 for an average condition 1050 is definitely on the high side. Make sure the muffler cover is present and not broken. These can be hard to find. A full wrap handle is worth more than a half wrap. Most later super 1050s had the fixed jet carb. Some people prefer the older with the tillotson hl, but that's a personal thing. Any piston or cylinder damage can get pricey to fix. Pistons ain't as bad but cylinders have gotten hard to find. Make sure you inspect for scoring and that the comp feels good. Value always comes down to just how bad you really want it, but really, that's up there even for feebay prices. If it's super clean, complete, runs great and your heart's set on it, sure, but if it's average condition, that's high.

Seems like they go cheaper on the west coast and in the north where they're more abundant. In my area, if it was in decent condition and the bore was clean with 2 bars/chains, $500 probably ain't that far off. But that's in Kansas. I guess I'm saying it's kind of a supply and demand thing.

They’re not really uncommon up here in the pacific NW but also not terribly common. I’ve seen a couple over the years. Last one that came up was per good shape and $200, but I was just not in the right place at the right time to get it unfortunately.

There's a Super1050 Automatic for sale in Erie, Pa. It was posted on Facebook Marketplace two weeks ago for around a grand. The price was cut almost in half after the first week. Listed again this week at 950.00. He describes the saw as a XP1150 gear drive. Something smells fishy about the posting. The photo shows a completely restored 1050 with a really nice bar. Like always, BEWARE!!!

I bought my Super 1050 just about a year ago not running and low compression for $60.00. It ended up needing a cylinder and a piston which the members of HOH found for me. These two items were about $250.00 I also changed to a rim style chain drive. It was still less than $500. with a
few other odds and ends. I also learned a lot more here than I would have by taking a small engine course somewhere. I now have the dreaded
chainsaw fever and I have heard there is no cure.

I saw that Erie Pa. add and told him that he was advertising it wrong, posted as an xp1130 but it says super 1050😱. I picked up my Super 1050 for a steal from a guy on Long Island. He had a Super Wiz 55 w/ a long Homelite bar for $250 a C-72 for $175 and the S 1050 for $140.

In the past couple months I sold two 1050's to members here and over on AS for less than $300 shipped. On had a video of it cutting 24" Oak and the other had a full wrap and started on a prime, but I think that one was missing the clutch cover. I'm a sucker for members that want a saw for their collection. As long as they don't want to flip them the next day, I tend to give them to good homes. Both were without bars, buyers wanted sprocket nose and all of my bars are hard nose. I only have one left and it's the first one my Dad bought brand new. It's not going anywhere.
