I forgot, they had two tin Homelite signs with Jacobson on them. They sold for $50 for one and I think $60 the other

Well, went to my honey hole auction yesterday and they only had one junk electric saw. They did have a beautiful Kelly Perfect double bit ax that I wanted bad. I figured with the crowd there I'd get it for $10. Told my cousin I might go $15-$20 it was so nice. Then this guy walks up and I go oh ratz. He has out bid me on every ax that we have bid against each other. Bidding started at $5, I went to $40, and he got it for $45.My cousins says, Are you nuts, you went double your max". He won't go 50 cents over his max, no matter how much he likes the item. I said, " I don't even know what I bid, I was just driving it up on that guy. I can't stand him, he gets every ax I want". As we were leaving the guy waved at me. The ax was in a wooden nail keg with some other junk in it. He asked what I was bidding on, if it wasn't the ax he was going to give it to me. We got to talking and he said last summer he bought a collection of axes from a guy on the Eastern Shore of MD for $10,000, 1200 axes. Turned out to be a decent guy. In another building I almost fell over laughing. In one isle were several boxes of old old hard core porn mags. Guys would pick em up and look, gals would blush and walk away. So, we are a few isles down looking at two heavy duty draw bars for a class 4 hitch. They guy next to us is rooting through a heavy black canvas back pack. The zippers were rusted and wouldn't move, so his hand would just squeeze in. He pulls out another old porn mag, laughs, and stuffs it back in. He keeps rooting around and pulls out a 3 headed soft rubber "Willy", he cussed and started spitting on his hand, wiping it on his pants. It's not uncommon to find sex toys in house hold boxes, but the way he jumped, cussed, and threw it down, I thought he grabbed a live rat. Oh Well, better luck next sale.

Chainsaws, axes and porn....sounds like the set of an 80's horror film!

Found a Mac 200, 80CC's, in a small engine shop in NC a couple years ago. My wife was visiting our friends, so I called the shop. The saw was still there and he let it go for $35. I posted the shop on another forum and in over a year nobody checked it out. First rule of good deals is, FOLLOW UP LEADS. He may have taken less. When I first talked to him he said $50. When I called Friday I just said will you take 35? He said Yep.

Great score! The 200 isn't going to rev super high...comparable to a C-series saw in my opinion. But they are built like a brick sh!thouse, so you shouldn't have much trouble getting it running.

Got the two Macs home. The 10-10 was missing the chain brake flag. A member over on AS graciously sent me one. It starts, idles, and revs great. The Mac 200 would not fire on a prime. I'll fool around with it soon. I tell you, a 20" bar sure looks little on an 80CC saw.

I've been too lazy to down load any pics for a while. I'll try to get them on here tomorrow. Painting today, and I don't mean pics of saws. I was in my local Ace Hardware last week, they are an Echo dealer. The guy in charge of the shop told me one of the other guys had an old Echo 280E he wanted to get rid of. I told him if it didn't have spark I'd give him $10 as a wall hanger. They pulled the plug and it had spark, and the owner said he had it running 4-5 years ago. I gave him $20 for it.Got it home and primed it, on the second pull it started. Filled the tank, and on the 3rd prime it started drawing from the tank and runs and idles great. It's so darn little it's just cute. It's actually so little the gas cap is hard to pour into. I took my big plastic syringe that I use to prime carbs and filled the tank with it. Then yesterday my cousin called and said he was at an auction and they had a real nice Super EZ. Told him to go $20 on it. He got it for $20= Tax and buyers premium. Won't get that one till Tuesday>
I should have made my #1 way of finding good deals, get a cousin that likes to go to auctions. He's picked up 5-6 for me. Here's a pic of the Echo, I'll get the EZ up as soon as I get it.
I'm still using Imgur and have to load my pics to my computer, then to imgur, then here. Is there a way to post straight off my cell? Tapatalk?

Most of my acquisitions are word-of-mouth, auctions or garage sales. My last larger find was 18 chainsaws at a garage sale. (Funny that I've driven by within 1000 ft of that place for the last 30 years.) He shot me a price and while I was pondering, he offered to add another saw inside of his shop, which happened to be a 20 MCS, as part of the deal. I took him up on the deal, kept 4 saws out of the bunch, and had the rest sold and picked up by another collector before sunset. I ended up giving him an unbelievable deal and $100 ahead.

My wife helps a few of the senior ladies clean. One lady's vacuum was broken so we took it to the shop last week, and I picked it up this afternoon. Nice old guy runs the shop. He said have a good day as I was leaving. I said, Yep, going home to play with my new, old saw. Stayed and talked some more, and he said he has a big old Mac at home. He took it in to the shop 30 years ago and they said it was too old for them to work on. He's checking the model and calling me back. He said he was 76 now, and his dad bought it used when he was 10-12 years old. Can't wait to see what it is.

Here's the Super EZ my cousin picked up for me Sat. It has good spark but did not fire on prime. I think someone lock tited the muffler screws in, and they are round head so I can't use a socket. Pretty darn clean, I hope it's a runner. Who ever had it put a 3/8 low pro chain on it. I thought all EZ's had standard 3/8's. I'll start pulling it apart tomorrow. Could that be the original bar? If it is, that saw couldn't have been used much. I have a very nice condition 1976 super ez ao but the bar doesn't look as nice as yours. Good score!!

Thanks, I assume it's original. My cousin called Sat just before it sold and asked If I wanted it. I said yes go 20 on it. He Got it for 20 plus buyers premium and tax. He won't go one penny over what I tell him is my max. I keep forgetting to tell him if the other guy has the bid, at my max, he can go one more bid. Im worried it didnt fire on a prime, and i think they used burnt motor oil for bar oil. Every where you cant get with a rag is BLACK, dirty.

I had a friend tell me about an auction yesterday with an old Homelite at it. I went by to check it out. It turned out to be a 1945 Lombard GS-7 with a Homelite 24X2 engine. The Titanic looks mint compared to that saw. 🙂 I checked out the other items and there was a pallet with a Mac 10-10, Super XL-12, XL-12, Efco 156, Efco FL136 chain grinder, and a home owner Stihl. It turned out that the auction only took cash or check which isn't what I usually encounter as most all take debit cards. I had $50 on me so I decided to see if I could come out with anything. I watched the Lombard sell for $55, which it was only worth what it would weigh out as scrap as far as I was concerned. I really wanted the grinder as it was a high quality Italian made reversible rotation model. When they got to the pallet they sold choice so I won the bid for the grinder for $35. That left me $15. The next bidder took the Stihl of course for $30. They decided to sell the rest of the saws on the pallet. I bid my limit and they sold for $20. ☹ On a whim, I asked the winning bidder if he would sell me the Efco and he said yes he'd take $10 for it. 🙂 So I came out with what I wanted most and had $5 to spare. Next time I'll be prepared for that auction service. If I had a choice between a Stihl, a Husky, and an Efco, I'd pick the Efco every time.

Sorry Ed. I went back looking and couldn't find it, then I went over to CL, which I never look at, and found an old Sand Cast Poulan 53A, 82CC's for $20. I'll go back and check FB. Do uo do Auction Zip. There is an online sale right now with a Remington PL5. I guess you have to register to see prices, I didn't register so I don't know what the current bid is. If you are interested in that one, send me a PM and I'll get you the auction number. i think they said the ship.

I already have a PL5 Joe,got it last month fairly cheap only to find out that the piston & rings are severely scored.I ended up getting a new piston & oversized cylinder for it about 10 days ago.It was supposed to be a short block. The guy I bought it from is what I'd call a schyster.Live & learn, but at least I can get the saw going again (I hope).
