I really don’t know, I would have to research to find out.

I gave a call to VE Petersen,a Tillotson supplier,& they told me that the previous RK-378 kit that was used on the HL46B (which is NLA) has been upgraded to an HL-88 kit.I asked them if the needle & seat was the same as the RK-378 & they said it was.I ordered an HL-88 kit & I'll see if it works. Ed

I tore down the HL46B carb yesterday & was thinking that I could possibly get away with just a cleaning, the gaskets & the pump diaphragm all looked to be in excellent shape. That was until I got to the metering diaphragm,it was all full of wrinkles.Good thing I ordered the kit. I didn't get the seat out.Is there a special tool to take it out?I tried using a 5/16 socket, but it wouldn't fit. Ed

I think there was a special socket...I took a std. 5/16" and ground the sidewall down until it would fit. I couldn't find an off the shelf socket thin enough to fit either.

I ended up doing the same thing.I got the brass fitting out,but how do you get the rubber seat out that's inside where the needle seats & how do you get the O-ring out at the bottom where the brass fitting goes in? The copper washer can be almost impossible to get out...unless it's known to be leaking, I will reuse it with a new seat. The rubber seat for the needle isn't serviceable so removing it would likely destroy it.

I've got an old HL 46B that's giving me trouble.I rebuilt it with new seat, needle & lever, gaskets & diaphragms.I used an RK-88 kit which I was told by V.E.Petersen that was the same kit as the RK378 which are now obsolete.I put the carb all back together & put a drop of oil in the seat for the needle.I used a MityVac 8500 to put 10 # of pressure in the carb & it leaked down pretty fast.I tore the carb down again & put the old needle & lever in & had the same problem. How do I get the needle to seat & hold pressure? How fast did it leak down? Most likely the needle is not reaching the seat. Which side did you put the diaphragm gasket on?

It leaked down fairly fast, probably within 25 sec.(10#).I put the gasket on the carb base, then I put the metering diaphragm on top of that.Where does the little O-ring go?I lost the O-ring.I probably shouldn't even be trying to work on this stuff with my poor eyesight. Ed

I found a tutorial on rebuilding an HL carb over on AS that was done ten yrs.ago & I followed it to the letter. The IPL that you gave a link to,I can't make out very much there because it's so small. When I enlarge it then it cuts off the part #.I have to constantly increase the size, then decrease the size to read it all.it drives me crazy after a while & I have to take a break. If I could see an IPL without the watermarks it would help greatly too.Sorry. You have to scroll left to right to see it all when enlarging. Even at 400% enlarged, it is still clear to me. What kind of computer are you using?

It's clear to you because you have normal vision.I don't want to be an ass here,or make excuses, but maybe I need to enlighten you how bad my eyesight is.I have glaucoma, which after looking at a computer screen for any length of time makes it feel like I have sand in my eyes from straining.I have macular degeneration, which makes anything I read appear to be wavy & has deteriorated my left eye to the point that I can only read the 2nd line on an eye chart .I also have RP (retinitis pigmentosa),which has taken away my peripheral (side vision) almost completely, leaving me with tunnel vision. This is why I have such a difficult time reading IPL's,especially with the watermark in them (I know you do this for security reasons). This is why I ask where something goes,or what the next step is on something.I'm able to do the fine work only with bright lighting & the use of magnifiers.I hope this brings an understanding of my visual problems. Sorry to hear about your eyes, I assume you don't drive either. I can only assume either the o-ring you describe is either the gasket for the seat, or the washer for one of the adjustment needles.

I haven't been able to drive since 1992.The o-ring must be for the seat because it came in the rebuild kit. They don't give o-rings for the needles in rebuild kits that I know of.I guess I'll have to buy another rebuild kit if that little o-ring doesn't show up soon. Here's an update on my Zip's carb.I called my local saw shop the other day & told him the problems That I'd been having with the carb leaking down when trying to pressure test it.I took the carb over to him today. The needle wasn't seating properly because the person who made the tutorial that I watched said to use the old lever with the new needle because the lever "was set correctly".That statement was completely wrong because the old lever has been worn. Also the metering spring had very little tension left in it,so he replaced the metering spring. He then put the carb back together with the diaphragms & gaskets & did a pressure test, which it passed with flying colors.I could've been on this forum trying to get that HL carb to work forever.Don't get me wrong,I'm in no way putting down this forum.I've learned a lot here & I'm sure I'll keep learning.I greatly appreciate everything that everyone here has helped me with over the months.I have no shame though in taking a carb somewhere for some help if need be.It was well worth the money I paid to have the carb put together & working properly. All I need to do is put the carb back on the saw & put a new fuel filter in the tank & I'll have an operational Zip.I have one more HL carb to rebuild & that's on my C-71.I've learned from this carb tear down & reassembly.Maybe on the next HL rebuild I won't have to take the carb to the local saw shop for help.
