Greetings all! I have a C7 I'm working on and I can't figure out how to get the recoil to engage the "cup" on the flywheel. I've tried greasing the washers, drying them, nothing seems to work to get the metal tabs to come out and engage the cup. Is there a trick to this? I've flipped the "dogs" in both directions nothing works. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Make sure that the washers are stacked correctly or the friction shoe won't extend correctly. Also there is a sharp edge on the friction shoe that should be oriented to engage the starter cup.

What sawnami said, be sure it is together correctly and dry. Get all the grease or oil off the washers. Friction is needed to extend the dogs. I have a Zip that would not engage so I sharpened the dogs that come out to engage the cup. Made the sharp enough to stick into the cup. Works great on a very worn cup. I do not expect to start this saw a lot but with no more slippage I also do not expect a lot of wear from the sharp edges. Good luck. Dan
