Hello group. I got hold of this DURAMARK 14 inches chainsaw wich is a canadian model sold by EATON Co. Model number is UT-50170 Serial number D8100139. It is a copy of a Homelite XL2. Saw is almost brand new. It would start but after a minute, would rev up and then die. Had to wait few minutes to restart it and would again have the same behavior. I am mechanically experienced since I fix small engines of all kind with success. But this one is a bear. It has kept me stranded and bewildered. Here's what I've done so far: -entirely rebuild carb-Walbro HDC-48A; -entirely replaced all fuel and oil lines, with new duckbills, making sure oil duckbill gap was 1/16-1/8 inch from tubing on porous end; -checked air thighteness of crankshaft oil seals. Everything holds thight; -changed fuel, oil, air filters; -checked oil pump and replaced with a good known unit; -replaced intake manifold gasket; -adjusted carb to original specs (1 turn out for both needles); -cylinder, piston and piston rings are all perfect, near mint condition; -spark plug is brand new DJ7Y gapped at 0,025 inches; -ignition module gapped at 0.015 inches. And STILL same behavior. What am I missing here? What would cause this revvup condition? Air leak? But from where? And then why would it die?

Greetings yvescastonguay! I hope when you figure it out you will elighten us. I'm NOT a small engine mechanic and have found similiar problems on small engines I have tinkered with. All I can offer is this post: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/3566/replacement-fuel-line-molded-grommets. I messed with this SXLOA for a long time and just couldn't get it to run. Looked like it had been lightly used. I tried replacing the fuel line with the yellow line and even put the metal wire around the carb as a "insurance policy". I bought 2 OEM lines on ebay and destroyed one of them trying to get it to fit through the hole in the tank before trying the yellow line which went through real easy. Same problem as yours. After figuring out how to get the OEM line on ( with patience and a lot of Wd-40 and a needle nose pliers) I got it installed and the saw runs fantastic today! All because of my fuel line. I guess for me the problem was because the tank wasn't sealed? HTH

pull plug spin starter as soon as it dies see if you have spark. sometimes magneto coils heat up and quit.
