Try not to laugh, I know it sounds easy. Took the brass cone-shaped filter out of the gas cap. Scraped out all the crap that was left in the hole with a a paper clip. Put the new duckbill in, then replaced the brass filter. I tried running it, but the saw was starved for gas and died out. Then I made a small slit in the duck bill, and gas leaked out through the top of the cap. What is the right way? Thank you.

The "bill" should face the center of the cap. But if you slit it, you may have to start over again with a new one. Also, it's hard to get rid of all the black crap in the internal air passage without using something like carburetor cleaner...not saying you can't do it, it's just a lot harder!
