This site is a wealth of information and I'm new to the site and relatively new to restoring saws. I recently acquired a homelite 330 and I got the usual line from the seller that "it was running". I was able to start it and idle but only at full choke. Turning out the mixture screws I was able to take the choke off and get it to somewhat run but it did not respond to small adjustments to the idle or mixture screws. I could get it to rev but it wanted to stay at a fast idle after revving it. Am I right in thinking that it has a vacuum leak? If so, what would be potential culprits. Maybe this would be a good time to convince my wife I need a vacuum tester and accessories.

Intake boot. About a ten dollar part on ebay, it took me under an hour to swap mine out. There is a post here on the 330 forum about it, and there are a few videos on youtube covering the repair. It is a good opportunity to clean the saw as the engine has to come out of the case. Also it is a good time to replace fuel and oil lines and carburetor gasket. Good luck!
