I am rebuilding a 150 Auto that my dad has had since long before I was born because it hasn't run in years. I hope to be able to give it to him either for his birthday or Christmas, depending on how long it takes me.
I guess I should first say that I know very little about engine repair. I've rebuilt a few old Maytag Hit and Miss engines and a Honda ATV engine, but I've never messed with a saw. Please forgive my ignorance on this subject and forgive me if I mess up any terms.
I've run in to a few problems that I'm hoping somebody on here can help me with.
The first is that I can't seem to get the flywheel that is on the opposite side of the engine from the bar to come off. I have gotten the nut off, but I can't figure out how to get the flywheel off. It looks like there is a spline on the shaft that keeps the flywheel from spinning on the shaft. I tried to knock it off by putting the flywheel in a vice and tapping the shaft with a hammer and punch. It doesn't seem to be moving any, and I'm worried that I'll break something if I hit it too hard. Does anybody have any suggestions for how to get the flywheel off?
Another, actually potentially major, problem I have is that there is a round piece of black plastic between the flywheel and engine that's broken. It looks like the spark plug wire runs to it. Can anybody tell me exactly what this part is, what it does, if there is anywhere that I can get one, or if there's a way that I can fabricate something to serve the purpose of that part if I can't find another one?
The last thing I have right now is that I know this saw leaks bar oil pretty badly. Actually, I might as well just pour the bar oil right on the floor. I can't find a crack in the tank, and I can't really see where the oil was coming out. Does anybody know if there's somewhere that these saws normally leak? Also, I'm having a hard time figuring out how the bar on this saw is oiled. Can somebody tell me how that works or even where the oiler for the bar is?
I would really appreciate any help that anybody can offer me!
Thanks!
