Hey everyone,
After a long search for a big brother to my EZ-automatic, I finally picked up a later model Super 1050. While the saw is in pretty good shape, it is missing the oil pump worm gear, everything to do with the clutch, and the drivecase cover (bar cover).
As I am having trouble finding parts for anywhere near a reasonable price, I was wondering what other models I can get parts from. I know many parts from the 2100s will swap...but are there any more common saw parts I can use? Maybe something from an XL-925? Any performance upgrade ideas would be great too!
Thanks!
-Phillip

I cannot think of any 925 parts that will fit. The closest models are the late model 1020's

925's 6 shoe clutch shoes are the same as the 5/8" ones on a 1050. Spider is different though. About the only other parts I can think of in common between a 925 and a 1050 are duckbills in the fuel cap and the throttle rod boot, and maybe a few assorted bolts. Joyce may be able to help you out on some of the parts you need. Otherwise, there's always feebay to hunt for parts, but you may wait awhile, and may not get a good deal either when you finally find the parts you're after.

I supposedly have a bunch of the parts you need. These are the part numbers I came up with and whether or not I have them. If it says "in card catalog" that means the guy I bought this pile of parts from has them listed in his inventory but I haven't found them yet on my inventory. You may want to double check these numbers, I got them from the internet, I haven't looked in my IPL yet to verify them. There may also be more items you need, this is just a preliminary list. A-640744 have in card catalog but not the inventory 56238-A have in card catalog and inventory 67441 have in card catalog not in inventory 585462-A have in card catalog not in inventory 697451-B don’t have in card catalog or inventory A-65991 have in card catalog not in inventory A-86727-A have in card catalog not in inventory 65960 have in card catalog not in inventory 63893 have in card catalog not in inventory 65393 have in card catalog not in inventory

Thanks for looking into the parts you have. I have run into a bit of a snag so I'm not sure what is the best path to take....I checked compression on the saw a couple days ago as it felt much to easy to turn over...almost nothing on the gauge.
I tore it down and found that a piece of a spark plug must have broken off in the cyl while it was running and got caught between the piston and the exhaust port. There are dings on the top of the piston with a big groove on the exhaust port side. The rings are stuck all the way down in the ring lands on that side. There is mild scarring inside the cylinder and a pretty nasty heat rub where the piston skirt kicked over as the top of the piston caught the chunk of metal at the exhaust port.
The rest of this saw is very clean...looks like it saw VERY little use. I'm just not sure if I should try to re-ring and see what happens, try to come up with a new jug and piston, or find a donor saw somewhere.
Thoughts???
Thanks, Phillip

Well, I guess it depends on how much you want to put into the saw. I would imagine it would run into the hundreds of dollars if you need a new cylinder and piston. Of course, used is also an option...

Phillip, a new piston and cylinder won't be cheap. Used one's probably ain't going to be too cheap either. If the cylinder's lining is still intact and the piston is only messed up on the top, I'd say try to re-ring it. Hopefully the old rings are tight just form carbon buildup and nothing is damaged around the ring lands. All depends on how it looks after you pull it apart.

The ring lands were slightly damaged by the foreign object in the cylinder. Not so much that they couldn't be cleaned up, but damaged nevertheless.
I guess my main concern is with the scoring inside the cylinder. I've heard that mild cylinder scoring isn't an issue in these saws and that they can just be re-ringed. Is this true?
Thanks, Phillip

Scratches in the wall can be tolerated and don't try and hone them out. If there are some nicks around the ports that interfere with piston travel they will have to be cleaned up. Same goes for the piston. Clean up the rough spots and those rings are very brittle so don't pry on them. Two cycle engines can tolerate this because the rings in these engines are not required to control oil getting past the rings like in a four stroke. We like to have good compression, this is important, but keep in mind that at 6000 RPMs (100 per second) very little fuel mixture will leak past the rings, through small scratches, back into the crankcase. Your bigger challenge will be finding the missing pieces for the clutch and pump.

Guess I may just go ahead and throw on a new piston/jug if it doesn't work out. This saw looks like it's a couple years old. Not gonna junk it just yet. -phillip

...So I cleaned up the piston, re-ringed, rebuild carb, etc...saw runs well now.
At this point I need an oil pump drive gear, clutch assembly, drive/bar cover, and last but not least, a 36" bar and chain.
If anyone has any of these things available, please let me know.
Thanks!
-Phillip

Hi Excuse me poking my nose in here but when I read of 'a bit off the spark plug got tangled up" my first thought were maybe a screw out of the carby throttle valve or even a bit of big end cage or a pice of a roller came up thru. I have never seen the the earth rod on a plug fall off but have seen lots of the other things I mention. Just having a litle say for something to do while the weather clears up

Hello all I have received a message from the Moderator advising the reason for there being no Reply Box so I am back here again with my problem. I am pretty sure that I am on the Home page but I could be wrong of course. I do not see the sort of things the Moderator tells me I should be seeing . He also states thet there are some problems with the forum . I am hoping to be able to get my head around the Website so will look back to see if there may be some more messages that will help, Please accept my apologies for being in the wrong thread with my problems and hope you will all understand the reason Cheers Joe

Yea, I was watching that one but it went too high for me.
On a very good note, this past weekend I found a 30"-32" Homelite "Perma-Hard Tip" bar for my saw at an auction just down the road from me. Got it for $8 in a lot with a couple grease guns and a couple oil cans! Although there is some slight surface rust, it looks like it had never been used...no wear on the paint or bar edges.
I have also found a bunch of the other parts I need, just a few left and my 1050 will be going back to work!

I found a clutch spider with 5 shoes and one spring. It is for the C series saws and has shoes that are 5/8" wide.
