Once again I kowtow before the Homelite help altar. I beseech thyne great wisdom. I have a C-72 saw with a six-shoe clutch that I need a sprocket for (3/8 pitch .050 gauge). Looking at the IPL I thought the A-94117 drum & hub was it so I bought one. Turns out to be too small (inside diameter).
Question 1: What is the correct part number (Homelite & Oregon) for a sprocket for this saw 3/8 gauge .050 pitch 7 splined – Not the spur type. – OK spur type if that’s all that is available.
Question 2: - Will a sprocket that fits this saw also fit the Super XL 925 (With the six-shoe clutch of course).
Question 3: Where is a good place to get one (read affordable)
Question 4: And finally is the A-94117 sprocket made for the three-shoe clutch?
Thanks again for all of your help.

I compared part numbers between the XL-925 and the C-72 and they are different for all configurations. BTW, my C-72 doesn't show a 3 shoe clutch. A-94117 is for the XL-925 with a 3 shoe clutch but I don't see that number listed in my C-72 IPL. My IPL is 24602 Rev. 1 and the Homelite hub and drum for the six shoe clutch is A-65991. If I look at the XL-925 the six shoe Hub and drum is A-65990 so something is different. Does the race and bear seem to fit in the C-72 The number of shoes in the clutch doesn't determine the hub and drum. Several pieces come into play. The race has to fit the crankshaft and the hub and drum or sprocket and drum has to have a bearing the correct size for the race. Along with that, the diameter and thickness of the drum has to be compatible with the clutch. From what I see, it doesn't look like the two saws use the same clutch parts.

Thanks for the info. My C-72 IPL is Part #24602 Rev. 2. In this IPL the C-72 is shown with both a 3 shoe clutch (A-95661-A) and a 6 shoe clutch. The sprockets are different part #'s. The XL 925 3 shoe clutch has a smaller diameter then the 6 shoe clutch (drum diameter that is). I assume the same is probably true for the C-72. That is why I mentioned it was a 6 shoe clutch.
In my IPL Rev. 2 the A-65991 is show as an optional drum & hub (6 splined) and right underneath it is the A-94117 (7 splined). They are both listed under the item # 64. Thus my confusion and purchase of the A-94117 drum & hub. It lists A-67545 (3/8 - 7 tooth) as the sprocket & drum for the 6 shoe clutch. Maybe it doesn't come in the drum & hub.
Thanks again & still searching, Mark (SkiPro)

Some further information: The existing drum (.404 I need a 3/8) has an inside diameter of apprrox. 3 1/8" and is about 7/8" thick. The A-94117 by contrast has an inside diameter of apprrox. 3" and is also about 7/8" thick. The bearing and race from one of my 360 saws fits the A-94117 drum and fits the C-72 saw.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Mark (SkiPro)

Sometimes the part number change means that the bearing is pressed into the hub instead of being a free caged bearing. The same thing happens with pistons. A later part number piston may include the rings where the old number was just the piston and pin an so there is a new part number. The hub for my 903 is 3 1/8" x 7/8" just like yours so I'm guessing the bore diameter in the hub is different. This hub is A-65989.

MCS thanks for the research. I totally agree. The sprocket that came with the saw has the bearing pressed into the hub. The hole diameter in a lot of the hubs "seems" to be standard. The difference in the crankshaft diameter is made up with different sized races. For example, I took the Drum & hub off of my XL 925. The bearing & race from the XL 925 did not fit the C72's crankshaft but the race & bearing from a 360 did. The XL 925's drum fit over the C72's 6 shoe clutch but the sprocket (even with a spacer washer between the clutch & drum & the sprocket slid all the way to the outside) did not allign with the chain / bar. I think this saw requires a spur type sprocket as I can't see a drum & hub being wide enough to allign with the chain & bar.

Thanks again & still searching, Mark (SkiPro) So it says in your IPL that hub 65991 has 6 splines That's interesting. The inset for this configuration clearly shows 7 splines in my IPL. Oregon only list one rim that works with six spline hubs but it is in 404. My IPL shows the 65991 hub and drum and below it lists the 3/8 rim as 63284. Is that what you see too You can run the rim system but you just have to get the correct hub and drum and have all the correct thrust washers.
