Yep,in your wishes for me to get well you had to tempt me to get another SEZ,Lol.Wel I didn't exactly get another SEZ,even though it was listed incorrectly on Feebay as being one.It is in fact an EZ automatic. This saw should prove to be interesting, the front handle is missing & the recoil has no rope. When I asked the seller what happened to the handle,he said that's the way the saw came when he got it,& then he sent me an email with a discount on the price. The original price was $56.99,I got it for $54.14 + free shipping.I need another one of these saws like I need another neck surgery,Lol,but I figured I couldn't really go wrong at that price. If nothing else it's worth that in parts.I'm supposed to have it by next Wed.

I've gotta wait for the go ahead from the doc to be able to work on saws again. It'll probably be another couple months yet,but I'll do very light work like clutch repairs, carb rebuilds, etc.

I got the E-Z today, what a disappointment. No recoil or coil at all.I went back & looked at the pics & they were purposely taken to be deceiving. There was no straight on shot of the missing recoil or coil.I might have a recoil that'll work, but I don't have a Phelon coil,or a Wico flywheel so I can change it over to Wico.I'm going to contact the seller & it's possible this saw may go back.

I feel like a complete idiot with this one.I got the E-Z mixed up with another saw that I bought by mistake. The saw I have is an SEZ that used an electronic blue coil of death (It's missing).I have a recoil that should work & I might have a blue coil of death that might be good.Updates to follow.

I got around to working on the SEZ today for a bit.I found a front handle while looking for a recoil & put them both on.I had to add some tension to the recoil spring because the rope was hanging out about 3-4 in.(I hate that).I was able to pull it over to find out how the compression was & it's got good compression.I ordered the new module from Standard Magneto today too.Once I get that on it'll have spark again & it'll fire for the first time in who knows how long.I'm expecting I'll have to rebuild the carb, kind of a gimme there.I'm figuring the reason the saw was parked was because the module quit on it.

I'm patiently waiting for a report on the Std Mag part. I could use a couple of 94111's if they pan out. I actually found a new one in a box a while back but what do you reckon the odds are that it's any good? I'll probably put it on someday but the last 2 new ones I installed didn't last long.

Not sure I will see it before Christmas and I have quite a bit of work to do on my saw before running it but I will definitely update. I have posted in ignition section.

Matt, those modules are sent by Priority Mail,I'd say you'll have it by Sat.Or Mon.at the latest, depending on where you live.
Brent,Standard Magneto put a bunch of them on Feebay back about 3 yrs.ago & I waited till there were only a couple left & I bought one.It sat in my parts tote for about 2 yrs.before I used it & it was good.I'm pretty sure it was one of the re-tooled ones.I got it back then for $54 & change.

This really has nothing to do with the SEZ I'm working on currently, but I figured I'd post here about a recoil that went on the earlier SEZs.This rercoil is the one with the chrome dust shield on it & is white & red.I thought it needed a new spring & I happened to have one on hand. The rope was shot& was broken out of the pulley.I didn't have the correct size rope on hand, but was pretty close at 7/64.I had a helluva time getting the rope to go up into the pulley because I had burned the end of it so it wouldn't unravel when trying to work with it.I found that was the wrong thing to do.I cut the burnt end of the rope off & it went right into the pulley.I assumed there was supposed to be a washer in the top of the pulley so the rope wouldn't pull through, but it was missing. If there's not supposed to be one there, too bad, there is now,Lol.Then I had the same problem with trying to get the rope through the recoil housing.Once again I had to cut the burnt end of the rope off & it went right through. What a PITA,Lol.I looked at the cover that holds the spring & saw that I didn't need the new spring because there was still one in it.Now there's a bushing that goes over the pulley forks that has to fit into the recoil housing perfectly, there's a notch that it fits into.Well that notch screwed with me for I don't know how long & every time I went to put tension on the spring it'd bind on me.I finally got it in the notch & was able to tension the spring. It works like a new one now.I'll bet that between late yesterday & today I must've spent 2 1/2 hrs.on that damn recoil,Lol.That was my first SEZ recoil, now I have experience,Lol.

When you burn the end of the rope either lick your fingers and thumb and "mold" the end down smaller as it cools or grab the molten end with a shop rag and pull out on it. Either way, you can put a smaller end on the rope as it's cooling. I always liked the rag option. I can pull out a nice little tail on the rope that's very easy to thread through all the necessary holes then grab it with needle nose pliers.

edju1958,
I received my new coil/mag yesterday as well. I posted under "Super EZ auto no spark". Good luck and I hope yours works well!

I was just looking at the Homelite Chainsaw Service Manual and found what I was looking for, it is the cotter pin in the top of the oil reservoir that is called the "breather". Is this true, the cotter pin acts as a breather for the oil tank? The cotter pin doesn't hold anything in place? Can I assume that the cotter pin with felt behind it in the carb chamber is a breather too? Just curious!

The cotter pin in the oil tank is a breather but the cotter pin with the felt washer is a fuel drain for the carb chamber in case of flooding .

Always thought that using a cotter pin in a hole to act as a breather was kinda cheesy, but it really makes good sense. If it was just a small hole, it's apt to get clogged. Making the hole a little bigger and sticking a cotter pin in is allowing the equivalent of a small hole for air to pass so it doesn't build a vacuum, and since the pin can move around a bit, it sorta self cleans so it won't get clogged. No duckbill to gum and and need replacement, it's cheap and does the job. Dan

Charles,
The felt & cotter pin in the carb chamber makes sense- fuel drain for flooding.
lesorubcheek,
I thought I was missing something, kinda odd to see a cotter pin in a hole not holding something but your explanation sounds logical.
Thanks for the info!

I don't know what happened here, but it looks like this thread got way off track. It's OK guys,I've done it on ther threads too,no harm,no foul.
I put the module on the saw today & put a new fuel filter in.The old fuel filter was disgusting, probably original.I tried pulling it to start, but it was a no go.The saw ran on a prime, but didn't pull fuel from the tank. Then I remembered that I didn't check the needle settings on the carb, they were way off.The lo was set at only 1/2 turn out & the hi was at 3/4 turn out.I set the lo at 1 1/8 to start & the hi at 1 1/4 to start. The saw fired right up after setting the needles, but I had to readust them. It's a good runner.I really don't think this saw had much use before it's demise.I put a spike on after I took the pics, looks meaner now,Lol.
